Medical missionary. It appears that Alex HAMILTON first went out to Nyasaland (Malawi) in May 1888, under the auspices of the Glasgow Union of YMCAs Foreign Mission Society. When home in 1893, he was
associated with Bathgate Mission, Glasgow, and returned to Africa to join the Zambesi Industrial Mission that April (the ZIM had been founded the previous year). He lived in Mitsidi, Blantyre. He worked
among those building the railway to Blantyre and it is understood that he was made a Chief. First Mayor of Blantyre August 1913. Returned to U.K. February 1914.
