The CASTENS Side

Go to Bottom of this Page

Our CASTENS line can be traced back to the early nineteenth century in Schleswig-Holstein.  Two brothers emigrated from there to South Africa or, rather, the Cape of Good Hope as it was then known.  Only the one CASTENS family is known in England.

Other branches of the family may be traced through the FRANCKLYN and CLARK lines to early settlers in the United States of America. All but one of those identified are of English origin.

The names of those in the direct lines are shown in the tables below.  These are linked to full details in the family pages.

Some of the FRANCKLYN ancestors are documented in family records.  Many more are given in Ancestry Files, and several lines may be traced into the Middle Ages (and earlier).  However, there are so many inconsistencies in some of the lines checked that I am not reproducing details.  Some further notes appear on the individual family pages.
