BIBLE REFERENCES from the previous page ............ (all are taken from the New International Version)

John 3: 16-18

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

Romans 3: 23

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 6: 23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord

Acts 4: 12

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

Psalm 127: 1,2

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain.  Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain

Romans 10: 15

How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!

2 Corinthians 5: 15

He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

CHRISTIAN FAMILIES

We live in what is often spoken of as the 'post-Christian' era.  Times have not really changed and people don't think or act very differently to the way they have throughout history.  They may be more sophisticated and they can certainly make their voice(s) heard more readily.  I am just grateful that faithful preachers have proclaimed the Good News, and continue to proclaim it, and that I didn't miss out.  It is not necessarily a bad thing to be in the minority!

My father's father, Richard Burgin LEAK

A note written by him refers to his conversion in February 1867 under the ministry of C.H. Spurgeon.  Charles Spurgeon was one of the 'great' evangelical preachers of his day.  His preaching and writings have influenced the lives of many thousands of people over a century and a half.

My father's mother, Harriet Alice ATTERTON

She and Richard were married at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in south-east London in 1879 by Charles Spurgeon.

My mother's father, Alexander HAMILTON

He travelled to South Africa in a work capacity.  While there, he was given a book to read, which led to his 'faith' becoming alive, and gave him a personal knowledge of the Lord Jesus.  This led him to decide to devote his life as a missionary to Africa, the land which had given him a 'living faith'.  After medical training in Edinburgh, he spent 25 years in Nyasaland (Malawi) with the Zambesi Industrial Mission.

My mother's mother, Margaret Dorman WOODS

Trained as a Deaconess in the Church of Ireland, she went to Africa where she met and married Alexander.
